Humans Won: Turning Test - Artificial Intelligence

Published by rakshit at 5:13 am under Uncategorized Edit This

Will computers one day surpass human beings? At least not in the near future. A study done in London to see how far Computers can mimic humans, has proved that though they do a very good job, they are not even close to mimicking real humans.

In this test a set of people were chosen and made to talk to two entities. One of them is a real human and the other a trained computer. This person should communicate with both these entities for some time and then figure which of the two entities is not a real human being.

According to ’some law’, (I don’t remember :) ) computers are said to mimic humans at a satisfactory level, if they succeed in 30% of their attempts. However in the Turning test, most of the computers couldn’t even fool 10% of the people they were communicating with. One machine however succeeded in 25% of its attempts but still couldn’t reach the 30% mark.

So, this result concluded that we are still very far from making computers as intelligent as humans. Till then probably we should be content with the Hollywood fantasies.
